Title: LinkStation Live - Dead drive??
Post by: harrydeac on April 12, 2009, 04:58:34 PM

I bought a 500gb LinkStation Live (HS-DH500GL) around 6 months ago and have just come back from a week away and all my files and folders are missing - I can only see info, lp and printers, none of which contain anything (besides instruction manuals for the device), although NASNavigator says 200gb is in use.

The drive is on firmware version 2.10 and all 3 other pcs in the network are on vista, there aren't any error lights and I've tried hard-resetting by holding the reset button at the back of the unit. I can't get into the Web Admin as it says user/password not recognised, when using the default admin/password combination.

Is there anything I can try or has the unit died??

Don't worry I fixed it - I found some help on another forum, seems to be a common problem. I wasn't too bothered about the files on there as they were backups, which made things simpler. I enabled debug mode in LSUpdater which let me reflash the firmware, and I ticked Rebuild Partition Table in the debug options which (I think) reformatted the drive. Now everythings gone on the drive but at least everythings working again =)

The rebuild of that partition did perform a format. You are correct in that. It is also possible the during the reformat that bad sectors on the drive might have been fixed.
