Title: TeraStation Support for SED (hardware ) encrypted USB Drives
Post by: jstar on October 07, 2013, 11:56:40 AM
When will the TerraStation support SED encrypted USB drives [http://www.computerweekly.com/feature/Self-encrypting-drives-SED-the-best-kept-secret-in-hard-drive-encryption-security][/url].

The main use case for this is for backing up the NAS data to an external USB drive. Currently you can encrypt the internal NAS drives but the device can't perform the handshake required to mount an external SED encrypted drive.

This is a major limitation of the device. I understand that you can use software to encrypt the data but  that adds overhead. It is a much more seamless process for the data to go from the TeraStation to an encrypted USB drive. Please consider this as a new feature in the future.
