Title: Buffalo Drivestatio (USB) not recognize by DVR
Post by: bristolxyz on September 26, 2013, 10:38:22 AM
I have a Buffalo HD-QLU3R5 Series
It is configured with Raid5

I can successfully connect it to my Windows 7 64Bit workstation and it works fine.

I want to be able to use it to backup recordings on a commercially installed DVR (a Samsung SRD-1652D-3TB ). The Samsung DVR has 2 USB ports, both of which will recognize a USB thumbdrive or a USB mouse, but when I plug in the Buffalo HD, it does not recognize it as a backup device like it does when I plug in a USB thumb drive. I have tried several thumb drives and they all work fine, but for some reason, the Buffalo drivestation is not recognized as a "storage" device.

The Samsung SRD-1652D-3TB is relatively new and supports USB 2.0 according to the manual ( http://www.barcodediscount.com/pdf/Samsung/srd-1652d.pdf )

Is there some "backward compatibility issue here that i am missing?
Could it have something to do with the drive config (Raid 5 vs. using some config that does not use striping?)

Warm regards in advance,

Bristol

The DVR supports USB 2.0, and has 3 - 1TB SATA drives installed, I'm assuming that the DVR drives are formatted to NTFS. The documentation for the DVR only lists the file format for backups (AVI and one called SVC (EXE File for playback bundeling).

The Drivestation is new and has no data on it, so I can change the file format.. should I try an alternate format other than RAID5, maybe spanning with FAT32 or NTFS MBR?

Thanks for your help...
