This is my last effort before I remove the hard drives and throw the unit away. For some time I could only access the Cloudstor on my local network. Pogoplug access didn't work. I was told it was my Verizon Fios router blocking it. I was unsuccessful in correcting the issue but at least it made a good backup of photos on my local network. I switched to Brighthouse and it was the same. Recently however, the Cloudstor won't even show up on my local network so it is now just a paperweight. I've tried rebooting, replacing the network cable, and trying Brighthouse tech support for changing router settings. The light in the Cloudstor is solid blue indicating there isn't any problems. My IT guy at work suggested I find out what Port it uses and set up the router not to block that port. Any ideas?
Rick
I would download Nas Navigator and install the software. Once installed, run the software and see if the unit was found.

Your Cloudstor must be able to access the following URLs and ports inbound and outbound:
Port 80 (TCP)
Port 443 (TCP)
Port 4365 (UDP),
If you have a router and a gateway (a gateway is a modem that has 4 ports in the back and sometimes WiFi), check and see if you have a gateway because if you do i would suggest to pull out the router and use the gateway or make your router into a Ethernet bridge if possible so your gateway will be the DHCP server and the only device you will have to port forward.
IF you give me the model of your router and modem i can probably tell you how to do it. depends if i have the free time to research the path and stuff.
My Brighthouse Gateway has wifi. It is RCA/Thompson model DWG8551. Since this gateway has wifi, I don't use my own wireless router on my network, just the Brighthouse gateway. I previously used a Fios Westell gateway which seemed easier to get into and change settings than this one does.

I installed the NAS Navigator and it shows the Cloudstor in "EMERGENCY MODE". UPDATE THE FIRMWARE OR CONTACT TECH SUPPORT". Can I do a firmware update when I cannot access the drive?
As long as Nas Navigator sees the device you can do a firwmare update. Make sure you are connected with a cable to the network and not wireless as this can fail.
I have been agonizing over this as time permits and since I have updated the firmware, I can see it on the local network but I cannot access the files nor can I log into the device since the default "password" no longer works. I tried to do a reset using a procedure I saw elsewhere on the forum and it didn't work either so I'm back to square one. The procedure I tried is:
Flip switch to off & wait for the lights to turn off
Press & hold the Function button for 10 seconds
While holding the function button, flip the power switch to on
When the function light turns on, release the function button & press again for 1 second. Power & function should be flashing (which it did).
Is this the correct procedure for reset? I asked for help from the Buffalo support but no response.
What color did the power and function flash? i don't own a Cloudstor but the method should be the same as the LinkStation.
This was taken from the manual.
1. Move the power switch to the OFF position to shut down the LinkStation.
2. Move the power switch to the ON position while holding down the function button. The function button will flash blue for 1 minute.
3. While the function button is flashing blue, press it again. The status LED will flash blue. It will start flashing amber when initialization begins (2 - 3 minutes).
