Title: Can someone please give basic help? LinkStation 410 WebAccess
Post by: Zevvion on August 04, 2013, 08:58:53 AM
I've purchased the LinkStation 410 recently because it was advertised as easy to use. I foolishly thought it meant to be easy to use for anyone, rather than for people who already have an understanding of how all this stuff works.

I've, of course, searched Google for a couple of days trying to figure it out, but I just cannot understand how to do it.

I can access my NAS through my network, even uploaded a couple of movies to it, so it works in that respect. But I just cannot figure out how to set up WebAccess. I've tried the manual (which hilariously states to simply 'turn it on in the options'), I've tried existing threads, but I can't get through this.

It gives me the following error when setting it up: 'UPnP Gateway not found or does not support port forwarding. Apply manual installation'.

Now, before all this I didn't even know what port forwarding was. With use of portforward.com I believe I may have opened port 9000 which the NAS seems to require. But I cannot be sure I did it correctly. I read I need a static IP for my NAS? How do I do that? I know how to assign one to my PC, but how do I give one to the NAS?

Also, even if I have one, how do I forward that port so that it works?

Any help is much appreciated. If I need to give certain information please let me know. Thanks.

Go to the web access setup option,

Web access service: Enabled
Use buffalonas.com: enabled
Https/ssl: enabled

Buffalonas.com name: choos this yourself
Buffalonas.co. key: choose this yourself
DNA host name: n/a

Auto configure firewall upnp: disabled
External port: 9000
Internal port: 9000

Exclusive session: leave this as it is

Save the setting.

Then forward port 9000 to the link stations IP address, you say you have done this, you can check http://canyouseeme.org

Done.

Thank you for your reply.

... it worked. Thanks. I was using the basic interface most of the time (because I know nothing about this stuff), but it seems the advanced interface was required.

But it worked. Thanks a lot. I have access to my server now.

By the way, do you happen to know how I can access my nas without WebAccess? But by use of its IP? I know nothing about this so sorry if I sounds like an idiot asking that.

EDIT: Also, when I try to access my NAS via the official WebAccess app, it says it cannot be found. How do I prevent this? I did make the folder a private folder instead of public because I do not want just anyone having access to it.

For accessing the linkstation without remote access, do you know if your WAN IP is static or dynamic?

Yes, forward the external port used for web access for TCP to the local IP address of the Linkstation.

I am having a similar problem I can access my NAS within my network but I need to be able to access it from anywhere.  I have a DSL modem that is linked to a NetGear WNDR3700 router which is where my Linkstation is on.  I have the port forwarding on both the modem and router to forward the port 9000 (as stated above) to the Linkstation IP address.  Not sure if I'm missing anything else or what I need to do to be able to access the linkstation from anywhere over the internet.

Thanks

If you can access it via web access locally but not remotely then the only issue it can be is that the port forwarding isn't setup correctly on your network.

I have my modem and router both set to port 9000 to the Linkstation IP address, both starting and ending port numbers are 9000, I've tried to expand it out to 8500 to 9500 but still same problem.  Not sure what other options I have, any recommendations?  Thanks for the feedback.

Contact the router manufacturer and get them to correctly open the port for you.
