Title: Trying to recover the data from LS-WGTL/R3
Post by: satay2hot on July 26, 2013, 09:08:47 AM
Hi I have think I have bricked my LS-WGTL/R3 after accidently install a firmware 3.09. I tried using navigator2, TFTP Boot, ping  etc, bottom line is I cannot see the nas anywwhere.  As the data is important to me, Can I ask a very radical question? of using 2 HDD and plant it to another new linkstation pro duo? What is the chances it will work? Will the new linkstation reformat the hard disk?

Please help- I know I should have backup

Thanks

Vincent

Migrating drives to a new linkstation will not help. If you've written unbootable firmware to the drives, then it wont be able to load the lightweight OS, including NIC drivers, that enable it to -be- a NAS.

Note that the OS is on the drives, not on a piece of hardware in the Chassis.

If it isn't a RAID 0 array, you may be able to mount and browse the XFS partition in a windows machine using third party software.

There's also professional data recovery, Drivesavers (http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/welcome/welcome-buffalo-technology-customers/) has a discount for Buffalo customers.
