Title: noisy link station
Post by: jcturnernz on April 08, 2009, 05:58:22 PM

Hi,

I have a  HS DH500GL, firmware 2.10. In general it works ok, but I notice a lot of the time, the harddrive is doing something, and is noisy. This occurs even when the network cable is unplugged.

Shouldn't the harddrive power down if I am not accessing the device? Is there any way to tell what it is doing? (i.e. some sort of disk scanning or optimisation/defrag process?

Cheers

Jeremy

Ok looks like with a bit more searching this was the problem

Now the server is turned off, and all is quiet!

Is there some update to stop the media server running all the time (I assume it is scanning for new files etc), and manually trigger a rescan?

As far as I can tell the PCast function on the LS Live doesn't have an option between just updating the media database and reflashing it. Since you're running firmware version 2.10 I do know that we have an updated firmware however the Media Server function still remains as PCast with the same options. I'm sorry but there isn't a fix for this.
