I had an error on #1 drive and did the recomended "restructure". This took about 5 minutes. Since then the unit has been "Repairing RAID Array 1" for over 10 hours and is only 35% complete. There is about 250Gb of data on the unit. Is it normal for it to take this long?

 

Honestly, I am surprised at how slow accesss the station is to respond in general when grabbing a file, file listing or even the web browser access. I have 1Gb access from my PC to the station but maybe there is some other setting needed chaning to improve performance?

 

• TereStation Live 4T configured as RAID 5 used only as file storage
• Firmware Version is 1.1
• Computer is Dell XPS 3Ghz running XP Professional SP3
• Interconnectivity is hardwired Gigabit Ethernet through a Linksys 8-port Workgroup Switch

Yes it can take that long due to the RAID 5.  Ive noticed myself that sometimes when you are using a switch it can slow things down.  When you get the unit up and running update the firmware here is a link to it.

Thanks for the response. Is there any risk of ANY data loss when updating the firmware?  I do not have this backed up on anything else.......

Nope it will be fine your just updating the OS on the unit. 

   Well.....the unit should be done repairing the RAID 5. Last I was able to look it was at 88%........however later when I went to check the progress to see if it was done, I can't access it. What should I do now?  Cycle the power? On the front panel everything looks somewhat normal with the drive lights blinking together except the LED for drive #1 is not illuminating.

Yes, do a power cycle on the unit see what ip address Nas Navi2 is giving you and go to

RUN>//ip and see if you can access your share and map the drive.

   Using the power switch on the front.....the unit is not going off. Suggestion? Also.....isnt' it odd that the LED #1 isn't blinking with the other three?

Yes power it down using the power button you might have to hold it down. Is there any patter to the lights that are blinking or is nas navi giving you an error message?

   

I did hold the power switch down for about 5 seconds, the again for a bout 109 seconds. Nothing.

 

The front panel drive LEDs 2 3 & 4 all blink together at about 2-3 times a second.

There is no error message on the LCD display. It is cycling through the screens (fan speed, drives, IP address....ect).

NAS just doesn't see the unit anymore and IE can't see it at it's IP address.

Ok have you tried to hard wire the unit via ethernet directly to your pc?  Try that and boot it into em mode.  See if nasi gives you an ip address.  Give us a call we are open 24/7.  Do you have FireFox?  If you do try FireFox.

   

I have not tried to directly connect via Ethernet. I will try that tonight when I get home. Will that work?  It's IP address is 192.168.1.106 (assigned via DHCP).

 

When you say "nasi".....are you talking about the Buffalo NAS Navigator?

 

I do not have Firefox, but I do have Google Chrome and it does the same thing (http://192.168.1.106) it sits there for a bit then times out.

 

So far.....you haven't said to yank the power cord out......guess that might be a problem?

Yes "nasi" is the Nas Navigator Client Utility.  Right now there are other ways to try to get it back up and running with out "pulling the plug" .  But try the Direct connection and boot it into em mode see if you can get "nasi" to see it.

   I will try the direct connection.......but what you do you mean "boot it" into EM mode? The unit or the software? Sorry......I'm not that network savy.

Yes boot the unit into em mode.

   Sorry Josh.....how do I do that?  Press the reset button?  Pull the AC plug? Not sure....

Hold down the reset button while powering the device on (should be located in the middle of the underside of the LCD readout panel). That should boot the device to EM.
