Title: HS-DHGL_211_101b Not working well, wanna to goback original FW
Post by: doppler56 on April 04, 2009, 11:27:09 AM

My HS-DH500GL got updated recently to HS-DHGL_211_101b.  The main reason was to resolve an over 1

year problem of not being able to play video media on my PS3.  Now a number of problems with the new

FW, makes me realize this was a mistake to update now.

1. The external MAXTOR ONETOUCH drives I have constantly spin now.  NICE N TOASTY.  Not good!.!.!.!.!

I realize why that change was done.  To enable the drive for all time access.  Waiting for spin-up was not in

the older FW.  Likely one of the reasons for PS3 Video not playing.  Previous FW allowed for spindown.  I realised this

effect early on.  And "pre" accessed the usb drives before starting FTP ops.  This allowed for a spinup to occur.

2. The pictures folder on the main "Share" drive.  Now has a hardlink to my USB1 drive called usbdisk1.  I can R/W/D/C.

Another not good problem.

3. PCAST is a garbage.  No matter what I did "ALL" video media is viewable.  Including those files not in the starting

"root"directory specified in the PCAST media settings.  Checking USBDISK on or off has no effect.  Refresh and

lash mixedin with each (change) attempt no effect either.

This is what I wish to do.  I want to go back to my previous FW.  I have not been able to use DLNA for over a year.

I can still live with that, don't like it, but I can live with it.  "Pre" access the usbdisk before doing something, I can

live that too.  I need to know if  LS_Live_103_WebAccess.zip is safe to flash over V2.11?  I can't afford losing all my

content with a bad procedure.  Before for you mention I have searched and read about versioncheck=0 to be able

to overwrite new with old.

If you have some other fix for my problems #1 and #3 I am willing to listen.  Problem #2 is just scary.  I don't

use the hs-dh500gl for pictures, it's a non-issue.  Bottom line: Is what I want to do safe?

Flashing firmware back to 1.03 from 2.11 is difficult and risky. You're not just looking at a firmware update but a complete rollback of the Samba kernel. If you're dead set on it you can attempt the force firmware update procedure found here but other than that there's little that can be done. In relation to problem #2 this functionality was created to allow users to easily transfer data to a USB disk no matter where they were in their folder structure instead of keeping an open window off to the side.
