Hi.
My external hard drive mentioned above does not appear to have physical defaults, but it wont let me access my files. I have not dropped it or anything, but I have moved it around a lot and I don't always shut down properly.
It sounds like it is running normally, the only noise being the low constant humming.
When I click into the drive using Windows, a list of all of my folders appear. But as soon as I try to click into a folder or attempt to copy, the window freezes up. Occassionally I am able to get one level deep into one of the folders, but that is as far as I can go before it freezes again.
Occassionally before it freezes I can intiate a copy of a folder, but I always get an error that says "Cannot copy [file name]. The path is too deep."
I tried reinstalling the driver, to no avail. There is a steady orange light below the green light. It may have changed from red to orange when I reinstalled the driver, but I can't be sure about that.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. There is one folder I would really love to get back. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hi. I tried that and I am still having the problem.
Sorry for the delayed response. I am in Australia and have been asleep the past 9 hours (product was bought in the US and is plugged into a computer also bought in the US).
Thanks. Any other suggestions?
If you're running XP or Vista you don't need to re-install any drivers. Both OSes have their own native drivers for running USB disks such as this one. The "Path is too deep error" occurs when you have a folder structure such as the example that follows:
Pictures->Vacation->[Country]->[State]->[City]->Year->Month->Day->etc->etc->...
Don't get me wrong it's good to be organized however you can't make an infinitely deep path on a FAT32 drive. Which brings me to another point. What format is the drive in?
