Title: Linkstation Live Recursive Folder
Post by: phepps on April 01, 2009, 12:57:26 PM
I recently purchased a Linkstation Live 500GB NAS and after unsuccesfully attempting to add a USB drive I now have a new share on the internal drive which is a recursive directory i.e. when I open it there is a new share inside it, which has a new share inside it, which has etc etc etc. When I try to delete the share I cannot. I do not know how it got there and while it uses no space it is VERY frustrating. Will I have to reformat the internal drive to get rid of it or is there some other way i.e. by logging in directly rather than through the web interface.

Go into the web user interface and attempt to delete the folder there. If this is not possible try re-flashing the firmware. Could you provide a model number so I can provide the right downloads/procedures?

Thanks for the interest, the model is an HSDH500GL and I have already tried reflashing the firmware to no avail. I have tried using the web interface to delete the folder but cannot: I get a permission denied. If I go into the folder which is titled "pictures" I see another folder titled "usbdrive1" and inside that is a further "usbdrive1" etc, etc, etc. I did not make a folder called pictures or usbdrive1. These appeared after I had tried to add a 1TB drive to the USB port. I had great difficulty getting the Linkstation to see the USB drive at all, a cavalry CAUM3701T0 and only succeded by turning on the usb drive and the Linkstation kind of together. I then formatted the drive to XFS and Everything appeared OK untill I tried rebooting again upon which I found I could no longer find a magic combination of turn on sequence to get the USB drive recognized. At this point I gave up and stuck the usb drive into a regular USB port, formatted it to NTFS and am using it OK. HOWEVER when I looked at my Linkstation folders I have this new recursive folder and it also reports a non connected usb drive.

A TFTP boot might be necessary although I would suggest a force firmware update first and then an initialization immediately afterward. The Pictures folder is hard coded into the filesystem the only thing I could possibly suggest there is deleting the root folder in the web user interface and recreating it.
