Title: My Buffalo ls-ch500l has been formatting the drive for 3 weeks
Post by: rixxagain on March 29, 2009, 08:35:25 PM

OK.  This drive was on a small network in a legal office.  The network became infected with the comficker virus.  This lawyers data is absolutely critical that nothing happens to it, so I copied the files on it to my computer and cleaned them up.  To ensure that the drive was clean- I decided to erase the drive.  using the web management screen.

It has been formatting it ever since.  I can still access the login screen, but all of the functions on it are disabled except the " direct disk copy " button.  If I click that, it says that the drive is performing a disk function and cannot do a disk copy, and also that all file sharing, etc have been disabled.

The LED at the top of it is blinking 3 times.  I looked that up and it says that that means there is a problem with the partition and that I should format the disk.

I tried initializing the drive and it goes right back where it was.  My questions are--

1.  Is the drive toast?

2.  Is there a way to physically return the drive to the factory settings?

Any help- much appreciated.

It's possible the drive is dead. You might have to contact our technical support (866) 752-6210 for setup of an RMA if the device is still in warranty. Alternatively, you could try a TFTP boot outlined here. Then re-flash the firmware.
