Title: How to sort All Users when linked to a Large Active Directory community?
Post by: Andrewww on March 20, 2009, 08:30:42 AM

I have a Linkstation (model LSW20TGLR1) and I linked it to our Active Directory.

We have a very large amount of users (over 5000) so when I want to assign a user to a shared folder and try to locate it in the "All Users" section, it's a real MESS!!!  There is absolutely no order, all the names are in a messed up order and it's very frustrating to scroll hundreds of time to find the good user.

Is there a way to sort those users in the list, or is there a way to manually type the username?

Thanks

The list of users is drawn in order from your Active Directory, starting at the top of the tree.  While this doesn't help you, you can go to the USER MANAGEMENT screen on the web interface of your Linkstation (if it has one like the TeraStation).  Then you can use search feature of the browser to find the user you are looking for if you know the name.  In firefox, just press F3 and search for "joeuser" to find that username.  Note the scroll bar posistion, and go back to your share and you can "guess" as to the approximate posistion in the list and start there.

Otherwise, if you don't have a USER MANAGEMENT screen, you'll have to simply scroll.
