Title: Linkstation pro duo - can't load firmware, now in EM mode
Post by: pnine on February 25, 2009, 03:40:11 AM

In an effort to improve the occasionally drops offline problem, I loaded new firmware into my Linkstation Pro Duo tonite.  I was at 3.05, and attempted to install 3.09.

Both computer (WinXP) and Linkstation are on same 1Gbps ethernet subnet.

The LS Updater program would say "transferring firmware completed" and then "checking..." and the progress bar would get all the way to the end, and then a window would pop up saying

LS Updater

Couldn't confirm response from LS-WTGL2E3

Please check a network address of both PC and LS-WTGL2E3

Please disable the firewall function on PC

Updating is aborted.

So I disabled the windows firwall, and tried again.  Same thing happened.

Tried it again.  Same thing happened.

So then using the web admin interface, I did a "restart".  The result of this was that the linkstation came up in "EM Mode".  (That's what NAS Navigator says.)

So now what do I do?

After the linkstation came up in "EM Mode", I tried one more time to update the firmware.  Amazingly, this time it worked.  Updater proceeded to "has booted up" and then "has been updated".   My linkstation is now 3.09

However, it still drops off the network from time to time.  Not usable.

After reading some other threads, I have also done the reset to factory defaults.

After that I tried running a backup (ie writing lots of data to the linkstation).  It failed after a few minutes, with the usual "delayed write failed" message from windows, like this...

Immediately after this failure, I can access the linkstation from that same PC, using the windows GUI.   It seems that the interruption is short lived, but long enough to make programs malfunction.
