Title: Linkstation Quad no longer mounts an array
Post by: Eug on February 24, 2009, 03:00:33 PM

I have a 4TB Linkstation Quad, configured as RAID 0.  It had been periodically crashing when a lot of data was being written to it.  The shares would stop being visible on the network, and the HTTP server wouldn't respond, but the box could still be pinged.

In this state, there was no way to do a proper shutdown of the box, and I ended up having to power-cycle it.  After the last power-cycle, when the box boots, it sends me an email that the array can't be mounted.

When I check in the web interface, it claims everything is fine.  The share is visible at the root of the device, but can't be accessed.

Running a disk check in the web interface reports that everything is fine.  This is all with the latest firmware.

Help?

OS of your comp and Firmware version of the LS?

Does the Nas Navigator find the unit and display a FW version?

Any error or info lights on the unit?

The LS has firmware 1.05.  The accesses were attempted with computers with various OSes (XP, Vista, Server 2003).

I have not used the NAS Navigator.  Only web access.

No error or info lights.

Since posting my question, I have deleted the RAID and had it build a new one.  It is now accessible, but still becomes inaccessible periodically.  For now, it reappears on its own and hasn't gotten into a state where the web UI is unavailable, but the periodic accessibility is the same behaviour it had been exhibiting previously before crashing.

Yup.  I ended up replacing mine with a ReadyNAS, and things have been awesome ever since.

Paul,

The product has been replaced twice.  I've also had similar problems with a LinkStation Duo.  I'll PM you my contact info, though, if you want any more detail.
