Title: Hard drive failure on 1Tb Terrastation HD-HTGL/R5 configured as a Raid 5
Post by: K-Graphics on February 17, 2009, 03:12:31 PM
I have a 1Tb Terrastation HD-HTGL/R5 set up as a raid 5.  One of the 250Gb hard drives has failed.  It is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 IDE drive, model #ST3250823A.  I am having trouble finding an exact replacement.  I have (3) questions: 1) Will any 250Gb IDE drive work?  2) Can I put a larger drive (such as a 360Gb) in this one slot and have it re-populate the data?  3) Can I change all four drives out to 500Gb drives and make it a 2Tb unit?  Also, it will be important that the NAS Navigator software see the unit.  Thanks.

1) As long as its the same size and same rpm speed and obviously be ID

2) Number one answers this one. Has to be the same size. If its smaller it will not work, if its larger it can cause you problems and if it works you will only get 250gbs out of it.

3)You can put 500gb hard drives in there but you will lose your raid/data. Also buffalo does not support upgrading the size of your unit.
