Title: Cannot see folders after linkstation crash
Post by: njschwartz on February 17, 2009, 03:21:52 AM
I have a LinkStation HS-DH500GL that has been working well for several months.  Today for some reason it suddenly started beeping continuesly.  I tried resetting it and several other things with no luck.  The NAS Navigator software could see the drive on the network but could not connect to it.  I decided to attempt a firwmare upgrade to hopefully fix.  The upgrade went fine and the drive not appears to be fully operational except one minor problem, I cannot see any of my old folders.  I know the data still exists because the drive says it is 48% full, but even when I connect and browse it as the administrator I can only see the default share and info folders as if it were the first time using it.  I have all my music and movies and stuff on the drive still and really want to find a way to save it.  Is there a way to browse the drive or get it to recognize all the folders?  Any help would be wonderful!!

So I have made some progress in getting my old files.  By creating the old shares using the exact names (case sensitive), I was able to see the folders.  The problem I have now is that I cannot access any subfolders because I do not have the required permissions.  Neither a user, nor the admin login has the permission to view the folders or change the permissions.  Is there a root login that can change permissions somehow.  Also, I have been able to verify the data exists because for some reason I can view the files using the web access.  Again any help is appreciated!

Since you flashed the unit you might want to go into maintenance then intitialization and restore to factory defaults. Its always best to do this after flashing the unit to get rid of any settings left over from the last firmware. Then you should be able to get into the folders.
