Title: Lost data on LS-QL/R5
Post by: jayin on June 23, 2013, 10:25:45 AM

After moving from Shanghai to Hong Kong I restarted my LinkStation to discover that I can no longer access my folders.

At first I thought it was because I had upgraded my Mac computer in the mean time but in fact I am able to mount my HOME and my info folder but not the others (photo, backup). I can see them on the "shared folder" screen and I can add the web access to those folders. However when i connect either with SMB either with FTP either with web access, I am not able to see those folders.

Even under the HOME folder, I used to have a movie folder and it is not showing up.

When I look at the array (R5) I don't see anything wrong, the LEDs on the front of the LinkStation are normal, and any check I run on the machine shows status normal or OK. Yet, somehow the folders disappeared.

On thing that is very strange, it is when I log with my admin account and go to the Shared Folders page, I can't change any of the setup (the icon is there, but I can't click on it) and all the selection boxes in front of each folder are greyed out and I can't select any folder. I can't even add or delete. So this leads me to think the array is broken but when I do a system check nothing strange is reported. And all HDDs seems OK.

I have no clue on how to fix this.

Post a screen shot of the web admin page, have you reset the Linkstation to defaults via the admin page? If not then do this. What firmware are you running?

hello Davo

thank you for your reply, I was away for a business trip.

here is the status screen where you can see that my firmware is 1.11 (see image below).

and here is the screenshot of the shared folder setup screen. all the areas circled in grey are not clickable (but normally should).

I tried to reset the system but nothing works.

by the way, now I am able to mount the whole thing but when I access the folders I created I have the following error message:

The operation can't be completed because the original item for "xxxxxx" can't be found.

I have no idea how to recover my original data.
