Title: TeraStation TS5400R0804 - OK to keep external USB disk in NTFS format?
Post by: mjcooper74 on May 26, 2013, 12:38:36 PM

Currently configuring a rack-mounted TeraStation for common file storage, and am planning on backing up the irreplaceable contents regularly to an external USB hard disk. The external has been pre-formatted as NTFS and the TeraStation recognizes it just fine, seems to back up from the TS to the USB with no problems, even though the TS won't allow you to format a new drive to NTFS.

Are there any problems either short or long-term with leaving the external drive as NTFS?  I'd like the option of moving that disk over to a Windows server in the event the TeraStation ever goes down.  Only drawback I'm seeing so far is that if I ever need to reformat the external drive, it would have to be done on a Windows PC.
