Title: Opening an LS-X3.0TL Unit to Extract the Disc
Post by: rmbittmann on May 25, 2013, 11:15:00 AM

After performing a standard checkdisk the unit lost connectivity and the blue light started blinking. The only way for me to get some kind of connectivity was by restarting the unit without the network cable inside, wait for the blue light to stop blinking and then connect it directly to a laptop with the Ethernet cable.

When I did this the NASNavigator was able to find it, with a 169.254.x.x. (always a different one) address. I was able to force a new firmware update via the LSupdater to the latest 1.64 firmware, but the unit will still remain in emergency mode.

Talking with the technical support I understood that the unit is most probably defective, and since I have it for only five month it is still under warranty and can be replaced. But I need the data! (Yes I know I should back up regularly, and I did, but I forgot some of my wife's files and that can be bad :-( )

So I would really appreciate it if someone can give me instructions how I can open the LS-X3.0TL box and extract the disc so I can connect it to a Linux machine and save the data. Of course any other suggestions how I can reach the data are also most welcome.

Harddrive has 6 partition.  Partition 6 is the data partition, XFS file system.  Should mount easily under Linux but under Windows only with special software.

Thanks for your help. I was finally able to find a computer to connect the disk to, and start it from an ubuntu cd. I will appreciate it is you could direct me how and what I should mount.
