Title: Forced Firmware (Mac)
Post by: JumanjiMan on May 23, 2013, 07:34:10 PM

So, recently I was poking around, and had to force the firmware on an older Buffalo NAS. This is what I came up with:

Forcing firmware on the Mac is as simple as it is on the PC. Once you've downloaded the .dmg
image, it will automatically open for you in Finder.
On the Desktop, you will need to create a new folder. Once that is done, you will drag and drop
the full contents of the .dmg image to that new folder.
When that is complete, open up the data folder. You will need to edit the LSUpdater.ini file, as
well as the linkstation_version.ini file.
The LSUpdater will need to be modified as usual, changing the VersionCheck = 1 value to 0. You
will also need to edit the updater version at the top of the ini file or it will not work.
Once that is complete, load your linkstation_version.ini, and you will change the dates on the
following values:
VERSION=3.10-0.03 ----- Change this to a higher number, like 3.11-0.04
KERNEL=2009/07/17 17:26:22 --- Change the date to a higher month or day, not the year.
INITRD=2009/07/17 17:26:57 --- Change the date to a higher month or day, not the year.
ROOTFS=2009/07/17 17:27:54 --- Change the date to a higher month or day, not the year.
Save and close the files, then run the updater as usual. THERE IS NO DEBUG ON THE MAC.
As such, if you need to format during the update, for say, an ACP_STATE Failure, remember to
add the NoFormatting = 0 flag after the VersionCheck in the LSUpdater.ini

I figure this is something that's always asked for, both here and other forums not supported or sanctioned by Buffalo Tech (lol) but here ya go, folks. Nice and clear. Hope the community enjoys!
