Hello, just purchased a linkstation Pro 3TB and was wondering if my speed is normal or low?
I use gigabit switch with cat 6 cables and established a gigabit connection. My system looks like this i got a router connected to the gigabit switch which is connected to the my pc and linkstation pro all with cat6 cables. All the connections give no problem and after extensive testing with a 1gb file, i get best speed from 7k jumbo frames.
Then i started to transfer my huge amounts of files in bulk (approximately 600gb) and my speed is 35mb/s. (same with the 1gb file dont know why it didn't slow down considering the huge amounts of individials files)
Is this normal or too slow? Considering with usb 3.0 i get 90 or 100mb/s
and with usb 2.0 i get at least 40 to 50mb/s
Frankly i am a bit dissappointed with this speed since i thought gigabit connection should be at least faster than the usb 2.0 speed.
Is there any way to speed this up?
Are you sure you mean mb/s or MB/s. I get around 78MB/s on my Linkstation pro. I don't use jumbo frames.
Well, while copying the file in win7, there is that copying files window. There it says MB/seconds. Didnt know there was a difference in capitalizing or did you meant the Mbps thing? Whatever, the value i gave was the value win7 window gave me

35mb/s = 4.38MB/s
Mbps is the same as mb/s
Have you tried not using jumbo frames?
Turned off jumbo frames. Now it's up to 45MB/s. Isn't using jumbo frames speed up the process? Instead why did turning off speed it up? I am pretty sure my switch and ethernet card support up to 7k jumbo frames. Also is this speed normal? It's about the same as usb 2.0

I've always found that jumbo frames slows the speed down, don't know why though. Is your 45MB/s reading or writing to your linkstation? If it's writing then that's about the right speed for the linkstation, if it's reading then it should be higher.
oh, its writing speed. Then guess this is normal. Thanks for the help man. Though i still dont get it why jumbo frames slows it down. I mean it's kinda stupid dont you think? The supposedly higher speed tech actually slows it down.
