We have a Buffalo TS-2RZ (TS-2RZS12T04D). We have six 3TB HDD's in a RAID 5 with Hot Spare (So 5 active members of the Array) roughly 11 TB of storage.
There is an 11TB iSCSI volume (LVM enabled).
The TS network is configured to Aggregate LAN1 and 2 and JUMBO Packets are set to 9014 (all other settings are default). LAN 4 is the management port.
NIC Aggregate is configured on the Backuo Exec Media server as well, also with Jumbo Packets 9014 (all other settings are default). BTW File and Print and Microsoft Services protocals are disabled too.
Windows Server 2008 R2 iSCSI intiator, default settings.
Production LAN single NIC 1500 MTU.
When running a Backup Exec 2012 SP1 B2D backup to the TS-2RZ the BEST throughput I have witnessed is ~514 MB/min. That is passing through from the Production lan to the Backup Network. On the Backup Network we are using crossover cables, NO SWITCH, direct connect.
We have ~280 GB Direct Attach storage I also configured for B2D and I am getting 1 - 2 GB/min throughput.
I was expecting to see similar throughput from Production server to TS-2RZ as I am seeing Production server to Direct Attach.
I am next considering to reduce Jumbo Packets on the Backup Network to 1500 (Disable Jumbo) so that there is parity between the Production Network and the Backup Network to reduce any possible overhead.
I am also backing up the Backup Exec Media server to the TS-2RZ and I only saw 275 MB/min throughput, BTW no Software Compression enabled. Something doesn't appear to be right.
Any insights or recommendation would be very much appreciated.
We have only just started this project so I have no qualms about reconfiguring if a better faster configuration is proposed.
