Title: Use Buffalo LS-WXL on PC/laptop without router
Post by: Soccerwidow on March 14, 2013, 08:33:19 AM

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to setup the Buiffalo LS-WXL direct on my laptop without the need of having to go through a router.

We had the router for a while, and there is a lot of important data stored on it. However, we are moving houses, and are now temporarily in a hotel and using public Internet access without having our own router.

Any technical advice would be greatly appreciated as we have already spent hours trying to work this out in despair.

Thanks guys!

Are you using PC or MAC?

If the NAS was configured with Static IP when it was unplugged, rather than set to use DHCP, then you'd manually set your PC to use an IP Address on the same subnet (but different IP than the NAS, obviously) and use an Ethernet Crossover Cable between them. That should get you direct access via its IP Address.

FYI: a crossover cable is not nessesary, a normal straight RJ45 cable will do.
