Title: Recover Admin password on LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.10
Post by: HarleySwede on March 12, 2013, 03:10:28 PM

Hi, Bought a used Linkstation (Yes I know...) I can see the drive just fine, The navigator "sees' the drive, I can read and write to it. BUT:

When I log into the settings with admin/password I only get an information screen, can not change anything. My guess is that I am in "guest" mode, in spite of the login. I have tried the reset button numerous times and combinations, but no result.

If I try the drive installation program it says "no linkstation found"

I was able to do the upgrade from 3.09 to 3.10 without any problems, using admin/password. But it did not change anything

If I try to access it with my iPad it says the admin/password is invalid.

Looks like there is a "LS Recovery" application out there that might do the trick, but I have not found it.

Ideas? Please

Thanks for your help

The LSrecovery file will not work for this unit, you need to boot it into EM mode and reinstall the firmware in its debug state, enable "do not check version" and "delete user config"

Update:

I forced the firmware update (again) this time with the "delete user config" option. Update went fine. I can log in with user/password, but again, all I get is the Home screen with drive info. I am not able to make any changes. It seems that it might be some kind of "guest" access, even though I am logging in as admin.

The Navigator 2 sees the drive. I can see the files, and access them. But not make any configuration changes

The Installation utility can not even find the linkstation.

Have tried several different operating systems, created a mini network (computer, router & Linkstation), same result

Any ideas?

different browser maybe? make sure you're logging on with "admin" and "password"

Tried different browsers. No difference.

1. The Navigator 2 program sees the drive, allows me to log in as admin/password, but does not give me any options to go into the setup (I can change IP address, that's about it)

2. The Buffalo setup program responds with "No Linkstation found"

3. I can go in with admin/password and update the firmware just fine.

Something must be corrupt, that even the flashing of firmware could not fix. Is there a way to even more brutally reset the unit? I don't care about the data, I have backups.

Thanks

reinstall the firmware and in its debug states but this time select all options including rebuild partition table, this will erase everything on the unit.

That did the trick!

Lost all data, but that is OK.

The weird part was that the user interface came up in Japanese, but after some clicking here and there I got it back to English.

Thanks for your help.

Great job!!
