Hello,
The procedures to reset admin. password for the TS 5000 and specially for 7000 series seems diferent to older TS models , the recovery USB memory was not created, any other way to reset password to default values without flashing the unit (preserving data).
Thank You.
Hook up a montor and USB keyboard, boot the unit. After a minute you will see a message on the monitor like below:
http://tinypic.com/r/pt54o/6
Press 1 and then enter and the unit should boot into EM mode. (confirm this in the nas navigator)
Once done download the latest firmware for the unit, extract it and do the following:
Within the extracted firmware folder open up TSupdater.ini in Wordpad or Notepad.
Modify it as follow:
[Flags]
VersionCheck = 0 (modify this line from 1 to 0)
NoFormatting = 0 (modify this line from 1 to 0)
[SpecialFlags] (add this line)
Debug = 1 (add this line)
Save the modifications and start the TSupdater.exe file. Right click the title of the Updater window and select 'Debug (D)'.
This will bring up the Debug options. Select the following ones:
Ensure all options on the left hand side are selected, on the right hand side select all options apart from 'Rebuild Partition Table' (DO NOT select this option as doing so will erase the data on the unit)
Click OK and proceed with the update.
This should reset the password back to password.
NB: I've tested this on the TS V Pro models but as far as I'm aware it should work on the 5000 series, cannot say if it will work on the 7000 series.
Thank You, I will attempt DAVO solution and I will keep you posted, in the meantime I tried this file: http://www.2lk.com/view/LSRecovery.zip its a .exe that locates the NAS on the network and reset admin information to defaults "admin" "password" , it worked on a 5400 model I will tested on a 7000 model, most of the time it works with any LinkStation and TeraStation , its not a buffalo tech. or Resellers approved solution due to voiding the warranty, so risk should be assumed, backup, backup, backup, a must, manual restart is required, configuration are reset too, network, e-mail notification etc.. but data is safe.
LSRecovery.exe worked with a Terastation 7120r , quick and no need for reboot, configurations were lost, users, email notification, network etc .. but data is safe.
