Title: CPU Temperature warning overheat Brand New WS-QV4.0TLR/R5 terastation pro quad wss
Post by: pgrizard on February 19, 2013, 07:43:27 PM

My new windows storage server nas is showing a cpu temperature warning and all i have done is logged into it. Currently it is at 84C, it got as hot as 90C. I cant find what the normal operating range for the CPU should be. The system temp is OK. Is this unit defective? How hot should it run and if it is OK why the warning?

I am having the same problem.

I just  got may box today, and I am wondering if your question has been answered.

Any response from BUFFALO support?

Thanks in advance.

what are the serial numbers of your WS-QV4 units?

The defective unit has been replaced by a RMA, a refurbished unit.

So far, the refurbished unit is working fine. Temperature less than 70 degree Celcius.

I have the same issue, same model, on two different teraStations. Serial number on one of them 458355302001xx.

CPU temps are 93c and 199f on the second one, the first NAS would hit over 200f at idle.

DRMemory, you asked for serial numbers, is there a known issue? THe boxes appear to be working fine, but the temp is concerning.

More information, I used a third party tool to read the temps and the CPU temp appears to be fine. Maybe it's another sensor, but this is confusing. Again, the unit appears to be still working fine....

Any thoughts?

This is a Buffalotech coding issue, not a CPU temp issue. The Buffalotech dashboard is giving a false high temp reading in some units. The next revision dashboard will address this false temp reading. Only some units will show this issue.

Thank you! That's what I was expecting to hear. Someone should tell support, I called 4 times, both units and they just want me to send them all back.

Very good to know the reason.

I have another model WS-WVL/R1 having the same problem. As the temperature was under 90 Celcius degree (which the tech told me should be safe range 80 - 90), I have been using it for about one month. Seems it's working just fine.

I'm wondering if future firmware update would solve this issue.

Thanks for the reply.

The future firmware will address the false temp warning in all WSS models: WS-WV, WS-QV, WS-6V, and WS-RV
