I have read much in the forums regarding updating the drives in the HS-DHGL/R5 Terastation. I have already read through FAQ 1-5, downloaded all the required files to do an upgrade (firmware) and have acquired four new WD Caviar Black 1TB drives. My question is this: If I remove all four original 500 MB drives in my terastation, mark all cables (1-4) and keep the drives in order (1-4) can I restore the Teratation (not turn it to a brick) by simplying putting them back in if the install of the four new 1TB drives is unsuccessful?
The same question would apply to a Terastation Pro (TS-TGL) as am considering acquiring a used one and updating it as an alternative.
Any other insight opposite this process would be greatly appreciated!
I'm working through installing fresh hard drives in a TS-HGTL. FAQ 1 didn't work and unit jumped into TFTP mode, so went to FAQ 3 (TFTP Mode) then back to FAQ 2 (Force Firmware Update). Firmware update starts find, then stops and yields error "couldn't pass to the authentication. Please confirm again admin-password of the TS-HTGL-EM00E". Tried to also go through NAS Navigator to access unit and get error "Failed URL open. Error Code - 12029. I suspect the default password was changed on this unit. How can I get them back to the defaults? Or is there a different problem?
Found the solution by searching (Google) the error message. Answer was back in Buffalo forums - but poorly indexed. Solution was to do incremental firmware flash - first v1.33-1.32, then 1.35-1.39. Suggest author update FAQ 2 of 5 to reflect this necessity.
