Title: E11 Fan problem?
Post by: RoyalGreen on February 13, 2013, 07:13:45 AM

Hi all,

I have a problem with my:

LS-WVL4TB

Firmware version:1.64

The drives are 2x2TB Western Digital.

Running in a Raid 1 array.

I came home the other night and the device had switched itself off. It was on when I went to work.

I tried to power up but was presented with a blinking red light.

One long than one short flash.

I reviewed the NasNavigator and it read E11 which is a fan issue.  The device is in EM mode and the firmware is flashable. Yet a firmware flash doesn't recover the drive. The flash completes then reads something to the affect of "Flash didn't recover drive reverting to em mode."

The fan is spinning and generating a draught.

NasNavigator is reporting that drive 2 is showing a high level of bad sectors, but even that's weird as it's says this regardless of if Drive two is in the NAS or not.

I have reset the device through the function button at the back, which made no difference.

What do you think the problem could be:

Is the bad sector report a true estimate? I ask because when I connect the drives to my PC and use UFS navigator I was able to pull all the information with no real problems.

It's a strange issue, I have had similar issues in the past but flashing the firmware always kicked it back to life.

I will obviously try formatting the drives tonight through the liveupdater, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions, especially as the E11 is reporting a fan issue.

Many thanks for any thoughts or feedback
