Title: extremely long delete times
Post by: eddy531 on February 07, 2009, 10:02:17 AM

Have a 4TB Terastation Live (HS-DH40GL)

Purchased recently, have done no firmware updates.

Home network, computers running XPSP3.

Issue:

I have sent a number of data backups to this NAS, some of which stopped midway for reasons related entirely to the backup software (Genie Backup Manager Pro 8). I have gottenthe backup issue resolved and am now trying to delete the partial backups. This is taking an extremely long time, as in a 1TB deletion has been running for six or seven hours with no end in sight. I have disabled the recycling bin feature on this share.

Is this behavior to be expected?

Thanks,

eddy531,

My recommendation would be to abort the deletion of the files and go into the web interface and under Disk Management->RAID Setup there should be a Disk Check option.  I would recommend running that first before continuing on.  If no errors are returned then the only thing that I can think of is that you have a high volume of small files that are being erased which will of course take a long time if it's over 1000 GB of data.  Keep us informed as to what happens.
