Title: Linkstation Duo 2TB network hard drive Windows 7
Post by: Jelle on January 18, 2013, 07:35:00 AM

Hello all,

I got this Linkstation Duo 2TB (LS-WXL956) with firmware 1.64.

What I would really like is to set up a network hard drive when I am out of my local network. I have already set it up for my local network, so I can access all my shared folders from the "computer" folder in Windows 7, but when I take my laptop to school it would be nice to be able to connect to the NAS using this network hard drive thing.

I have tried the webaccess but that is not what I am looking for.

I was thinking that when you want to add a network drive to Windows 7 you could type in my outgoing IP with a port which I don't know is. Then just point to the shared folder I want and make it ask for my username and password (I only have one user).

Since it works on my local network I should be able to just forward the used port to be able to gain access from the outside, right? Which port is used for this?

Also, when I added these network drives to my desktop computer it did not ask for any username or password. Can I set that up so that people who knows my outgoing IP address still can't access it?

EDIT:

I actually also discovered something now. If I turn on DLNA it asks me for a password when I want to browse my files used the network drives I have created. Basically any time I want to access my files from anywhere in the house without DLNA it asks for a password, which I have no idea what is. The default doesn't work and the one I set myself doesn't work either.

EDIT2: Disabling DLNA does not gain me access again. I have to restore all settings to default before I can gain access once more.
