Title: Buffalo "toy products"
Post by: alantti on February 06, 2009, 02:06:44 AM

Hello,

I have not much more to say that Buffalo Linkstation Live was my first and last Buffalo product purchased ever. Why? Because basically its totally worthess peace of crap as it is not functioning for the purpose is it being designed for: Backing up your data?

Why it is not functiong for the purpose? Reason: Crappy software decrage over time and prevents basically after some time all access to you data and you lose your backups ---> So product is useless. (In Finland, if a product has a build-in fault, manufacturer has lifetime guarantee to fix it in two weeks or all costs to manufacturer...)

---> Bye bye Buffalo boyz and girlz, be careful out there not to trust "Toy products"

Is there a question anywhere in this unintelligible rant?

I understand that it can sometimes be frustrating to interact with Buffalo Tech Support and my experience has varied wildly both with the support and the products. I purchased an LS-GL1000 two years ago from a retailer and it arrived defective. Buffalo issued an RMA and a couple of days later, I received another unit that would boot, but the front panel was dead. Tech support was courteous and professional in both cases, and third time was the charm. I have the unit powered on 24/7 and ran continuously without rebooting for 15 months.

I purchased a LinkStation Mini NAS about two months ago, and i decided to get the internal Linkstation to Linkstation utility up and running. I flashed the firmware on both units to the latest versions. The Mini update went fine, but the LS Pro update failed. I performed a disk check, which returned normal, and then I restarted the Linkstation Pro and all hell broke loose. It would not boot up. It was a Saturday night.

I called Tech support and the person that answered the phone was rude, uncaring and unprofessional.  He basically told me there was nothing I could do but send the drive over to a data recovery service. He practically hung up on me.

I'm spinning all this yarn  because at the end of the day, I found the help I needed on this forum. This is the best resource to come to when you are in a jam, and inane ramblings like the one above don't help anybody. So, if you don't have anything positive to contribute or have something like an actual question to ask, don't waste everyone's time.

Take some of the money you are going to save by not buying "toy products" and buy yourself a decent spell checker.
