Title: LS-WVL/E Drives
Post by: mustangcobra44 on January 11, 2013, 12:46:16 PM

I purchased a LS-WVL/E and was looking at various drives to put into it when I saw the doc of "supported drives" on the site.  Is this list the only drives that will work in this thing or is it more of a recommendation?  Just looking at some of the WD models listed in the doc, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  It will support a 2TB specific model but not the 1 and 3 TB version of the same drive for example.  Hoping someone can shed a bit of light on this for me so I can have a better idea while I'm driving hunting.

I have the same question.

Just bought the LS-WVL/E and I am surprise how limited the listing of recommended HD's is.

I've sent an email to the support but no answer.

I bought the LS-WVL/E with intention of buying one 2TB WD Red drive for now.

How strict is the list of Supported Hard Drive List for LS-WVL and what will happen if I insert say WD20EFRX (2TB WD Red)?

Two weeks ago I installed 2 of the drives listed below in a new LSWL/R1 Series network storage device. The "Buff Box" as I call it, immediately recognized and configured the array without any intervention.

Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - OEM

The only issues I have encountered are listed in these Forums dating back 3,4 and 5 years ago with no resolution. But to be fair I have researched these low end storage devices for about a year before I decided to buy this Buff Box and I decided to buy this inexpensive 2 drive model to see if Buffalo has reliability. I wanted to buy one of their 32T boxes but Buffalo Sales has ignored my email inquiries so I will probably go to another manufacturer. A large majority of the problems I see people posting for help appear in 4 of the other brands other than Buffalo I have researched. I think it has to do with this OS most companies are using for their low end network storage devices. The reliability is just not there yet. I work with large NAS systems at numerous medical facilities and these needleing little things listed here would not be tolerated. Users accounts only work most of the time. Defined shares aren't accessible when all settings are correct. In the 2 weeks I've seen the same issues with mine people posted here 2,4 and 5 years ago. And my buff box just sits and runs, but sometimes the shares are there and sometimes not. I don't use energy savings settings. Excluding the default admin user the Buffalo Box fails to recognize the correctly defined admin group usernames and\or passwords 50% of the time. I considered allowing mine to be accessed from the web but if I have these obvious inside user issues, what possible security problems I do not know about could there be when accessing it from the outside. Not secure enough foe me to trust.

After my previous post, having an answer elswere that Buffalo is not able to test all drives for their boxes, I bought one 3 TB WD Red.

I could not be happier with my newest NAS. It works like a charm!
