A few weeks ago my LS-500GL had a problem and after many steps with the Buffalo Tech Support the final analysis was a bad controller. One suggestion from the TECH was a USB controller to read the disc as the data should be intact. I ordered a USB enclosure from Amazon and was very surprised with the results.
I took out the WD disc from my linkstation and attached to the USB enclosure. The device was then hooked up to my Windows 8 desktop.
The software I used to get recover my data was UFS Explorer v3.12 and I was able to browse my folders and retreive all of my data. It took about 12 hours to save about 300gb of data to my Windows 8 machine.
Is there anything I can do with my linkstation? Is it trash? What about this disc? I guess I can format the disc to NTFS and use it as a 500gb USB drive. Is it worth trying to format the drive and seeing if the Buffalo drive would work? I would love to hear any ideas or thoughts on this subject.
Thanks!
