Title: LS-WVL/E can't see 2nd hard drive...
Post by: sungandjudy on December 17, 2012, 11:01:01 PM

Hi guys,

I just bought LS-WVL/S and placed 1.5T (on slot 2) and 2T (slot 1) hard drive in it. It boot up ok, and it only recognized 1.5T hard drive.

When I switch them, it still only sees 1.5T drive on slot 1 now, but not 2T drive - you see it as disconnected. Even when I placed 500G hard drive in either slot, NAS only sees 1.5T drive.

What do you think is the problem with this? I am now doing erase from system to restore the factory defaults.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Peter

Ok guys,

After completing erase, now I get E16 and E22 message on 2T hard drive. I get this as hard drive not connected or data transfer failed.

Is this mean that they are not compatible? I can create partition and format this drive in windows without any problem. Only NAS can't seems to work with this one.

Just for your info, both drives are WD Caviar Green - WD20EARS and WD15EARS

Thanks again.

In order for the RAID array to function properly on our Linkstation units, both hard drives must be of the same capacity. Do you receive the same errors when using two drives of identical capcity?

I didn't try 2 drives of same capacity yet. I don't wanna set up RAID 1, rather prefer 2 independent drive. I think they call it normal here, or even RAID 0. The problem is that even if I place only 1 drive (2T) it does not recognize it. It also doesn't recognize 500G drive by itself. It does recognize 1.5T drive no problem, either by itself or with 2T or 500G drive. Any ideas?

Just a quick question.

Is it true that this NAS has lot's of problems with newer WD Green drives?

I was researching it and one of the thread states that WD Green drives has multiple problems. http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Linkstation-Pro-Duo-LS-WVL-E-lost-connection-when-copying-huge/td-p/52410/highlight/true/page/2

Should I use Seagate drive on this NAS?

Hi guys.

I've solved the problem. It was hard drive. I put 2T Seagate HD and voila! It can recognize it now.

So for your info., avoid newer WD Green hard drive. I think my 1.5T hard drive was recognized because it is an older model.

Anyway, just writing this to help others who might have same problem
