Title: Backing up Linkstation to Linkstation
Post by: danmosesedd on December 16, 2012, 11:14:18 AM

Sorry if this is obvious, I haven't found a clear answer.  I want to buy a new Linkstation Live (LS-X2.0TL) to use as primary storage on my home network.  I would like to use my older Linkstation (HS-DH1000GL) for backup of the new one.  Can a new Linkstation Live be setup out of the box to run periodic backups to this older linkstation, or any network node on the same network?  Without requiring a PC to manage the backup or act as a go-between?

As long as both units are on the same local area network, then yes, you should be able to backup your new LS-XL to your old HS-DHGL. However, to the best of my knowledge, this has not been tested with these two specific models.

First, within the web interface of your HS-DHGL unit, under shared folders, create a new shared folder that will be the destination of any backups - please make sure that the option for Disk Backup is checked under the shared folder support options. After saving these settings, you can now log into the web interface for the LS-XL. Under System -> Storage -> Backup, where you should see where you can create a new backup job. When configuring this backup job, the source folder will be any of the shared folders on your LS-XL, and the destination folder will then be the backup folder created on your HS-DHGL.
