Title: TS-8VH16TL 16TB ->32TB
Post by: kewlaidjams on December 11, 2012, 08:23:37 PM

I have a TS-8VH16TL 16TB (8x2TB) nas and was looking to increase storage space. 2 questions:

1) Anyone know if Buffalo's 8 bay unit supports 3-4TB drives? I see the newer model does support it but that one has a different model #

2) If it's doable, could I replace all 8 drives or do I need to replace it one at a time, have setup rebuilt the raid, and continue to replace drive by drive?

Thanks!

Yes it is possible, you would need to replace each HDD in turn then rebuild the RAID for each HDD, once done you would need to completely delete/recreate the RAID in order to see the new capacity. Bare in mind this is not supported by Buffalo and would void your warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was the case given the other threads I've read but wanted to confirm.  Basically I will need to rebuilt the raid 8 times. This task may take a month if rebuilt times are what I'm thinking they would be.
