Title: DTCP-IP and media server options
Post by: molla on November 21, 2012, 01:49:18 PM

Hi all!

I have linkstation pro duo with firmware 1.63; I use nas with LG 42le8800 tv by dlna.
I need some explainations on DTCP-IP and media server funtion.

1. What is DTCP-IP?
2. Why I need to enable the DTCP-IP function on nas media server? If the function is disabled, on TV the nas content does not refresh automatically after reboot!!!
3. Is possible use the media server option (ie transcoding video function) on my dlna tv or is possible only when you access your CloudStation remotely by web server?

Could anyone give me some explanations?

Thanks.
Regards.

DTCP-IP is a key used to decode/decrypt media files (like premium movies). In Japan, movies are required, by law, to be encrypted. In the USA, you may need DTCP-IP turned on for some movies, but mostly you don't need this turned on for the media server to work.

Thanks a lot for your answer, but I have another open items.

How I can use my linkstation as media server? In other words, how I can use transcoding video function on my dlna tv? Or it is possible only when you access your CloudStation remotely by web server?

For example, my lg tv doesn't works with DTS audio format: is possible to install some ipkg packages in order to transcode/remuxe automatically the mkv file?

In few words, I don't understand how use media server function with my tv!!!

Regards.
