Title: LS-WXLB9F - Disk Errors
Post by: beegary on November 20, 2012, 02:21:42 PM

When trying to run a backup of data from Disk1 to Disk2 I am getting a number of Read and Write errors.

I have run the Check Disk utility from the GUI, and repeating the backup process - I still get errors.

Is there something else I can do to further check the disks. Will Buffalo send me 2 shiny new disks as a result of this forum post?

You'll need to call your local support to get disk replacements, if under warranty. The forum is not the way to initiate replacements.

However, if you still want to check your disks before calling the support, Download seatools on to your PC
remove and check the HDDs(One at a time and make sure you have a back up of your data) on your PC.

Cheers Borat but I wonder whether that would void my warranty?

Also thanks Dr memory, my drive replacement request was really just tongue in cheek.

If you wrote your model correct, it is a Linkstation Duo, and in those you can remove the front and take out the Hdds{ Don`t forget to turn the unit off ;-)} It doesn`t void your warranty.

Just a Thought in the mean time, in these folders you are backing up do you have any files with special restrictions set?

Thank you all for your help.

My disks are actually working fine now, along with the backups.

My original problem was caused (I think) by the data backup being of 1000's of Folders/Files that were empty or close to being empty. Once I have a good clearout of the data the backup worked fine.

Hopefully a few years left in the disks yet!!!!
