This morning I received a notification from NasNavigator that the firmware was out-of-date.
Went to the Buffalo site & downloaded file "ls_series-163.zip", unzipped & rand firmware installer.
Afterwards, I have a flashing yellow light, and it is throwing an I12 error "Operating in degraded mode."
I checked the disk status in the System/Storage tab of NasNavigator2, it shows "ERROR" for Disk 1 and "Array 1" for Disk 2
Somehow I doubt that my disk failed at the same time as the firmware upgrade - how do I debug & repair this?
Also, what 3.5" drives are compatible with this unit? (should I need to replace the disk)
Thanks, Mark Kelley
Go to system /storage click on the disc with error see if it allows you to format it, then rebuild the raid
Thank you for your help - Can you please clarify?
When I have Disk 1 selected in the "Disks" menu "Format Disk" is greyed-out. Is this what you mean by Format Disk?
If I cannot perform this operation, should I proceed to the "Rebuild Array" procedure or not?
The "Rebuild Array" button is enabled in the "Raid Array" menu, however. Should I select "Disk 1" before clicking this button? Does it matter which disk is selected for this operation?
I have tried to upload a JPG showing my status, but I am not sure that I figured out how to do this.

Hey, Thanks for the pictures.
Safest thing to do is switch of the LS remove the HDD with the error,
Try formatting via your PC or Caddy and run a check disk, see if it will fail,
If it gives no errors put it back in and rebuild raid.
Got it, I will try this procedure...
Just to clairify, you meant "switch off" my Duo, remove the HD & then format the disk, correct?
Also, when rebuilding the array, does it matter whether Disk 1 or Disk 2 is selected?
I get a pop-up message that says: "WARNING The disk which is used for rebuilding data will be deleted. Cannot cancel this operation. Are you sure you want to operate RAID Rebuilding? array1?"
I might interpret this in two ways:
1. The selected disk will be deleted
2. the selected disk will be used to rebuild the array, the *other* disk will be deleted
Or maybe it doesn't matter?
Thanks for the help!
meant "switch off" Your Duo, remove the HDD & then format the disk with a pc or caddy
If HDD checks out put it back in,just select the one you formatted and REbuild raid.
I just got around to doing this... So, I got an external USB case & when I went to format the disk (with Windows 7 x64) the XFS format was not an option. It seems that disks must use this format for the Linkstations, correct?
