I just purchased a LS-V3.0TL and was setting up the unit last night.
I am unable to get the email notification and bittorrent to work. I've not tried web access. I was able to get the date/time to setup automatically. Nowhere in the user guide does it mention port forwarding for these features to work, but it's apparent that is the case? My quesion is port forwarding required for all these extensions that use the internet?
I'm using a FIOS actiontec router and have setup port forwarding for other things in the past, I just need some clear direction on how to configure this properly. I'm not sure why this is not covered in the user guide, even if it's just a mention on this process.
Port forwarding is not needed for e,ail notification, just the correct smtp settings, also ensure you have the proper default gateway and DNS configured on the nas.
I believe all of my settings are correct. My router is at 192.168.1.1 and here are my IP settings:
DHCP: disabled
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Email Notification settings for GMAIL:
SMTP Server Address: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587
Auth Type: LOGIN-AUTH
SSL/TSL: SSL/TSL ( I have also tried the other settings here)
Username: username
Password: password
With all of this I can't get email to send. Should I open up that port on the router? If so, should that be TCP on the router port config?
Thanks!
Okay, I got the email notifications to work by changing the following:
Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.1.1 (not sure why that was needed but it seemed to help)
SSL/TSL: STARTTLS
Now i'm moving on to my bit torrent problem. I changed the PORT in bittorrent to 61608 and I can not add torrents via the URL nor download. When I check my router the follow entries appear in the port forwarding section:
uTorrent (TCP)
TCP Any -> 61608All Broadband DevicesActive
192.168.1.2:61608
uTorrent (UDP)
UDP Any -> 61608All Broadband DevicesActive
Any ideas on how to fix this situation?
Thanks!
I was able to add BitTorrent URLs to through the WEBGUI, but the download speed is less than 1kb per second.
I'm going to mark this thread as complete and will search for the solution on the speed of these torrent downloads. This is really the last hurdle in getting my new linkstation setup. I can't get the Buffalo drive to accept my CyberPower UPS but I'm guessing they are not compatible.
If anyone has a solution for fixing my torrent downloads, please let me know.
Thanks!
