Title: Terastation 8TB - crazy SLOW speeds
Post by: jcrizzy on November 03, 2012, 03:47:55 PM
tired of testing different configs for this...but out of the box w simple setup...I'm getting crazy slow write speeds. 1MB file copy = 1 minute!!
Mac (10.6) with 10/100 network. Now I'm sure a gigabit network will improve this but still something else must be going on to get my low speeds.

Terastation TS-XE8.0TL/R5 (fw 1.55) (8TB raid0)
Mac (10.6)
10/100 network (router > switch > terastation)

Now I did plug in direct to test (Terastation > Mac) and to my surprise speeds were great. Copying files was basically what I expected.
So this does give me hope.

any other tips? I will likely upgrade network to gigabit but still concerned getting crazy slow speed even with my 10/100 network.

Ok Ok.. fixed my slowness I guess. Had it going into a switch directly, that's connected to router which was giving very slow performance.
Plugged Terastation directly into router and I'm getting normal/great speeds. Good to go now.

Switching cable type also helps a ton. Use 5e or 6 instead of 5. No need to blow big dollars on Cat6, 5e can do it well enough but far better that 5
