Title: Install two new drives to Linkstation Duo
Post by: objecttothis on October 23, 2012, 10:12:37 PM

So it seems that both Newegg.com and Buffalo Tech have screwed things up.  Newegg.com sells a refurbished Linkstation Duo marked with Model number LS-WX1.0TL/D1-R1.  What they don't explain is that this is the D1 version which has two bays but just one 1TB drive in it.  Not only is the unit DOA which Buffalo Tech replaced, but I need to have Raid 1 setup so I sell the 1TB drive on eBay and buy two WD WD5000AAKX drives which are listed on Buffalo's acceptable drives list.

What I'm now learning is that Buffalo installs the OS on one of the drives and the TFTP/ForceUpdate procedures are designed to work on drives that already have the OS installed on the drive.

This is absolutely ridiculous!  Why would you design a NAS that you could not replace the drives in with acceptable drives without RMAing the entire unit.  Now I'm stuck with a brand new brick.   Does anyone have any idea how I can get an image on these brand new hard drives that has the linkstation software on it?

Your so wrong its not funny. The TFTP can be used if you have inserted two completely new HDDs. And also, the LS-WX1.0TL/D1-R1 (when it was up on Buffalos site), specifically said it came with 1 HDD, not 2. (hense the "1D" in the model number.)
