Title: LinkStation Duo vs LinkStation Pro Duo
Post by: Barry441 on October 13, 2012, 04:14:48 PM

Hello all,  I'm in the market for a NAS and hope you can shed some light on the decision making process for me.  I have narrowed my search down to the LinkStation Duo or LinkStation Pro Duo; most likely with the 6TB capacity.  What I hope to accomplish is back up my home computers and server plus have ability to schedule backups from the server in my wife's office at work to my NAS at home over the web.

Is the remote backup option possible with the two of these and is one really better than the other.  It looks like all the software capabilities are the same between the two.  Is it just the processor and memory that make the LinkStation Pro the "Pro"?

Thank you for any insght you can shed to help me with the decision making.

I think the other difference is data transfer speed.

I've a Pro Duo which I use for backups, file storage and media streaming. Thinking of getting a second one....now if they only had iSCSI support.

Local PC backups on the 1st of the month (staggering the times) and user directories at 3am daily on Windows 7 PC's, using Acronis backup software.

But as for a remote backup over the web? Might be possible to enable the FTP server on the Pro Duo and port forward to it, but its not someting I've ever tried, and speed to backup could be a killer. Might be easier to do a local backup for your wifes server, and take the backups off-site each week.

Hope this helps.
