Title: MiniStation Thunderbolt SSD replacement - not compatible
Post by: damzgaard on October 05, 2012, 06:41:26 AM

Hi,

I just got my MiniStation Thunderbolt with a 500 GB disk with the purpose of replacing the disk with a OCZ Vertex 4 500 GB SATA-II disk.

The device is glued together but I knew that so I was prepared for this - its basically not intentet to be used with any other disk than the one it comes with.

Now to the problem: The SATA-II controller in the MiniStation can't see the disk!!!

Is this know issue?

Will there be a firm update of the MiniStation to fix compability problems?

Sincerely

Christian Damsgaard

So basically your asking will there be a fix for you breaking apart the unit and using a disk that the caddy was never designed for?! Ehhh.... i doubt it!!

Yep - exactly.

I hasn't been able to find a thunderbolt caddie for my OCZ SSD which was why I turned down this road.

I watch this video on YouTube http://youtu.be/6Qu_tK5agnk were a guy replaced his disk with a SSD so I expected it to work.

But anyway - a bit strange that the controller isn't compatible for just any SATA-III disk :-/
