Our TeraStation suddenly became inaccessible either through a web browser or the file system a couple of days ago. I'm not sure how to go about diagnosing or fixing this.
I can successfully ping it but I cannot access it by name nor does putting the IP address into the browser work (can't find it). When I run the client utility it finds it, but a) it shows the shipping host name instead of the one we gave it (and using that one through the browser also fails), and b) it doesn't show the firmware version or workgroup.
These symptoms seem to be identical to what I saw when my firmware upgrade didn't fully complete, so I tried running the firmware updater again. When I do this it comes back with this error:
"Couldn't confirm a response from the TeraStation.
Please check a network address of both PC and TeraStation.
Please invalidate it when the firewall of the PC is effective.
Updating is aborted."
I've tried accessing this from multiple machines on multiple OS's (Vista, XP) which previous could access and configure it just fine. I have done the INIT button thing a couple of times with no improvement. I've turned it off for a few minutes and back on with no improvement.
What do I need to do next here? Do I need to go through the hoops of connecting it directly to a PC with ethernet? Are there other tools I can use to diagnose the problem?
Model: HD-HTGL/R5 (640 GB)
Firmware: 2.16
Network: Windows Workgroup (not Domain)
P.S. Apologies for the fact that this essentially a duplicate post. I had replied to my earlier problem with the same symptoms, but didn't realize that the post would remain marked as 'Solved'.
Connect your PC directly to the Terastation, run the NasNavigator, find the device's ip address. Then you need to set your computers ip address to agree with the Linkstation. Make sure the first three numbers in the ip address are the same, and the last one different, and make sure the subnet mask is the same. Disable firewall software on the computer, then flash the firmware with the procedure in this link:

In the Config section of the Debug box, check all options EXCEPT rebuild partition table, unless you don't care about the data, as that option will erase everything.
