Title: bext way to back up Linkstation Live?
Post by: Mimizan on August 31, 2012, 04:32:24 AM

At home I have a mid 2012 Mac.

It is connected to an 500GB external drive, which I use to back up the Mac using Time Machine.

On the same network I also have a Linkstation Live 2TB, which I use as a Media Server.

What is the best way to back up the Linkstation?

I don't need to back up every day, as the files don't change THAT often, and if I lost a week's media it wouldn't be a disaster... I'd just bite the bullet and re-import.

Happy to purchase additional hardware, but just don't know if I should:

a) Replace 'Time Machine' drive with something larger and Configure Time Machine to also back up Linkstation (not sure if this is possible, and it seems counter intuitive to back it up across the network).

b) Attach a drive directly to the Linkstation.

c) Other options?

Any guidance offered will be appreciated!!

New a USB HDD, attach it to the Linkstation -> Format it via the GUI -> Use the inbuilt backup feature on the GUi to schedule a backup.
