Title: Problem with re-utilizing drives that had been previously in CS or LS device
Post by: marki2239 on August 30, 2012, 01:02:52 AM

I ran across a problem when I tried to put drives that had been previously used in a CS or LS device for the initial use in a new LS device.  The drives were reset using thr diskpart / clean function, but it seems like there was something left on the drive where the new LS device would not install the new firmware on the drives.   When we tried to force the firmware update the update failed with some message about not knowing if the partion existed.

The procedure I used to clean the drives is as follows:

1) Let the LS boot with a new disk drive (something that has not been used in a LS or CS device)

2) Shutdown the system and install the previously used drive in the other drive bay.

3) Let the system format the drive

4) Shut doen the system

5) Run the DiskPart / clean procedure in the drive

6) Put the newly cleaned drive in slot 0 and let the system load up.

If I get it right you can't do this to linkstation. Linkstation's system areas data are placed on both drives. If there is difference between system data on both drives than linkstation goes to EM mode. If you remove one disk that has participated in firmware installation and  install other disk that participated in another firmware installation this cause error. I think so.

You need to go through tftp and firmware installation procedure. Firmware will be installed and both drives will be cleaned. Than you will able to copy "saved data" to linkstation through network from original disk.
