Title: Lost Share on LinkStation Pro LS-500GL
Post by: rigg4d on January 26, 2009, 08:06:34 PM

Hi,

My LinkStation Pro has lost it's share. I can still access the info folder but not the share one through windows explorer or other methods (straight IP address). Furthermore, I can't remember the password I set on it so I guess I'll have to reset it for 10 seconds to be able to have access to the web interface. I've read a lot of info about installing the latest firmware but I just want to make sure that resetting it for 10 seconds and installing the latest firmware won't lose all my data.

Thanks for your help!

You wont lose your data however before installing the firmware I would try to add the name of the same share.  Or try to FTP into the box to recover the data before the firmware install.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info! I've got a few more questions:

Just to make sure: resetting the LinkStation to default settings is not supposed to erase my data either, right?

How could I try to add the name of the same Share on my LinkStation?

How do I ftp into the LinkStation? I just assign it a static IP address by the web interface (192.168.1.101 for example) and ftp -i 192.168.1.101 then cd to access a folder /share?

When I install the new firmware, what is the recommended procedure? Straight connection from a computer or through my Linksys router?

Thanks again for any help!

Nicolas

Paul,

I've read more post on the forums and finally decided to go forward.

My first problem seems that I lost my password. According to some other posts, I just need to reset it for a 5-10 seconds while it's on (until I hear it beeping) to go back to the default "admin" and "password" combo. So I resetted it a few times but I could still not login with the "admin" and "password". I don't remember locking it in the prefs

According to other posts, I also thought it could be resetted by upgrading the firmware so I lauched the LSUpdater.exe and it succeded to v1.15. I was expecting to see my "Share" re-appear and "admin"/"password" start working again but it didn't. Is there any other way to reset it?

What can I do now to revert my Linkstation LS-500GL Version1 back to default settings and recuperate my lost "Share" folder?

Thanks for any help.

Nicolas

Hi, I am in a similar situation. I do not know the current admin password for the LS500GL and need to get into it to setup some new user configuration. Please help me recover or reset the password so I can accomplish this task.

Thank you in advance.
