Title: LinkStation auto power on not working from wireless laptop
Post by: gardnose on January 25, 2009, 11:57:45 AM

- Linkstation 500GB NAS drive

- Windows XP

- NAS Navigator 2.10

Hi,

The auto power on function of my Linkstation NAS drive doesn't function when I connect my laptop wirelessly to my BT Homehub router. The power-on function works fine if I connect my laptop directly via ethernet cable to the router.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?  I understand it may have something to do with WOL (Wake On Lan), but that's as far as I've got.

Thanks,

Gavin

gardnose,

I would need the exact model number on the unit in order to know what I am looking for.  With all due respect Buffalo has manufactured quite a few LinkStation 500GB NAS drives.

Apologies, it's the  LS-CH500L Linkstation Live.

The drive is connected to the BT Homehub router using the ethernet ribbon cable supplied.

Thanks,

Gavin

I am having the exact same issue but I have a LinkStation Pro Duo 1TB.  Autopower works perfecetly on my two Windows XP laptops connected wirelessly and on my Windows XP desktop connected via LAN cable to the same router as the LinkStation. My Vista laptop however only triggers the autopower when conneted by LAN cable.  When connected wirelessly, its as if there is no PC connected; that is autopower does not respond.  I have NAS Navigator 2 installed on all the machines.

Please help.

Buffalo Link Station LS-CHL 500 GB -equipment, wireless router Linksys. NAS NAV 2.10

I have exactly the same problem with my laptop (VISTA, business). Even more : with wired LAN connection after some time the Linkstation is disappearing again.

Upgraded the LS with latest firmware, without result.

Please help.

Hi, This has started working for me now. One thing to check is that the NAS Drive is setup to be on the same workgroup name as your laptop. You can get to this by logging on to your drive via the IP address which could be something like http://192.168.1.68 - the default username/password for logging on is listed under the help link. Look under network--> workgroup/domain.

I'm using nasnavigator v2.10RC4
